Snow Days

The first two days of school this year were canceled for Fay. I just saw that schools will be open tomorrow.

My dad was my principal at Cathedral Christian School from K-11th grade. He was the one to make the call to the local news stations if our school was canceled for a snow day. I remember getting up early and watching the news with him while he made his decision (and as soon as he did I fell back into bed). It wasn't like it is here where when the Miami Dade schools close everything closes. Our area had more than one county (ours was Lucas County) and it was possible that not every county needed to be closed for snow. He actually had to get our name on the television so people would know not to come. Usually we wouldn't know until the morning if roads were bad. I'd trade a snow day for a hurricane day ANY DAY. Bundling up, hot chocolate, playing in the snow, and my favorite - snow angels. What great memories I have with my old friend snow. I miss him :(.

I also grew up in the snow, but I don't miss it at all.

We'll have snow before you know it and you can have it! :) The snow is pretty and a great opportunity to enjoy a hot caramel macchiato(sp?), but it stinks to have to bundle those kiddos up! I'd take flip flops and a sundress anyday! P.S. I got my ticket for Jens wedding! Are you going to be able to go?

Kelly,
My sentiments exactly! At least with a snow storm you get beauty and fun out of it: snowmen, snow angels, snowballs, snow forts, snow slopes for sledding, walks in the snow, hot chocolate with marshmallows, fires in the fireplace, etc., etc. That's about the only thing I miss about living up north - SNOW! There's is nothing beautiful or fun about a hurricane! NOTHING! Grammy-Mom

You are right Tara - bundling the kids is quite a task. After we skied last year I was thankful for flip flops and sundresses year round. But I DO miss snow. You would too!

Mom, I am glad that we will ALWAYS love snow together!

Chris, you are in the right place to not like snow! :)

Contemplating the flakes as they take their journey across the pane with wonderment and innocence making each a story of origin and adventure creating the magic of childhood. That's what I loved about snow days.

I make an expressive contribution and you take a jab at me? By the way Hallmark doesn't pay enough. I am however available for any literary needs you may have.

How was that a jab? It was a most certainly a compliment! That was beautiful! I almost think I should feature the quote on my blog! I loved it!

Ok, ok, not a jab. Allow me to offer any birthday and obituary musings for your enjoyment. No copyrights, so feature away.

Thank you, you are too kind. I'm not sure about all that, but once in a while I will offer some perspective. I much more prefer picking up the phone or seeing people in person. Besides you are the only one I have ever "really" posted to. I tried once or twice to others, but never got a response. I don't do one sided well, so for now anyway, I will remain a whisper in the blogshere quietly murmuring any thoughts that occur to me. shh....
