Long story, no pictures (we can't find the camera charger)!

My Mother's Day gift was a surprise night away with the family. We woke up Monday morning and headed up to Fort Lauderdale. Our plans were to hit the beach and then head back to the hotel to lounge by the pool, sip cool drinks, let Kourtney swim, relax, relax, relax!!! And so the adventure began...

On the way up I wanted to stop by an outlet mall to grab a new bathing suit - I was not thrilled about wearing one, but the only one I could find in my closet was 7 years old - I am not joking. I have been pregnant or nursing for like 32 months so bathing suits are not my friend. We stopped at an outlet mall in Homestead so I could look but I could not find one. So we decided to head up and see what we could find up there. When we jumped back on the turnpike I realized I had forgotten all the beach towels so we popped back over to the house to grab them. We weren't stressed - after all, we had all day and it was beautiful out!

We got the beach in great time and I started looking in the little shops by the beach for a bathing suit. When I realized that I was not going to pay less than $100 for a bathing suit that I would NOT wear that much, my loving, kind, patient husband offered to find a mall. We weren't in a rush, it was still pretty early in the day and the sun was still shining. We found a mall just a few miles away and I ran in . I searched high and low and realized it really had been a long time since I bought a bathing suit they were expensive! Who pays $70 for a bathing suit!?!? That was the cheapest I could find. Maybe it was because we were so close to the beach. I figured that I might as well just suck it up and pay the money - after all I didn't want to spend ALL day driving around looking for a cheap suit. We had an ocean waiting for us and Kourtney was getting nervous that we were NOT going to make it! I bought the cheapest suit I could find - $70 (good thing it was cute).

Huhhhh... we finally made it to the beach. I reluctanty tore the tags off of my $70 bathing suit - deciding that I wasn't going to return it. We unloaded everything (chairs and all) and plopped down to enjoy our day. I realized I had left McKenna's suit in the car so I walked back to get it. By the time I got back it started to sprinkle. We had a decision to make - load everything up and leave after not even 10 minutes or take shelter in a kiddie area that had a covered area just tall enough for me to sit in. It was Florida - land of the 30 minute afternoon showers. It hadn't rained in months. We have actually been having fires because of how dry it has been - this would not take long to pass. So we headed for the shelter - with the two chairs, two babies, four towels, snacks, and 2 bags. We tried to make it fun in there, but Kourtney wondered why we couldn't make it stop raining. We sang. We munched on chips. We waited. And waited. And waited. It was only getting worse and by now the shelter was leaking in on us. Water was pouring in our bags and all over our dry towle. We were cold, wet, and sandy. We decided it was not going to let up. Travis ran to the car with as much as he could carry and then parked as close to us as he could get. We grabbed the girls and everything else and jumped in the car taking our own small beach into the car with us.

We headed to the hotel and as we did it began to hail on us! We pulled over for a little bit to try to protect our car. It ended up flooding streets and brining in enough rain in South Florida to make up for the lack of rain we have had recently! Who would have thought that on the day we decide to go to the beach (we haven't been since I was pregnant) it would set rain records.

We finally made it to the hotel. We tried to hit the pool later and had a few minutes of success, but we got rained on again. Kourtney didn't mind much. She had fun wherever we were. McKenna was not to hip on the pool. Even though I held her really close and didn't splash too much she did not like the pool. We will work on her. I want to set the kiddie pool up in the back yard and maybe even use my $70 bathing suit again.

Our hotel was really nice (Embassy Suites is the BEST place to stay with kids - beautiful pool area, nice indoor facilities, two rooms, snacks hour, and hot breakfast - worth every penny). The best part of the trip was being together. Our day didn't go as planned but it was an awesome Mother's Day gift. It was nice to get away and be able to collect our thoughts.
